The 39 Steps celebrates its 1,500th performance with a new cast

Dianne Pilkington, previously starring in Wicked as good witch Glinda, joined the new cast of the multi award-winning The 39 Steps, the West End’s longest-running comedy, at the Criterion Theatre

Dianne will play the roles of Annabella Schmidt, Pamela and Margaret, while David Bark-Jones will be the new Hannay, and Timothy Speyer and Jeremy Swift are Man 1 & 2. The 4 actors between them play more than 139 roles in 100 minutes of fastpaced fun and thrilling action of The 39 Steps.

Dianne Pilkington previously starred as Grizabella in Cats; Belinda in The Far Pavilions; Mary in Tonight’s the Night; Belle in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast; and as Kim in the original cast of Boy George’s musical Taboo.

David Bark-Jones was in Guy Ritchie’s film, Rocknrolla and in The Da Vinci Code. On stage he appeared at the National Theatre in The Forrest and in the original cast of Dealer’s Choice

Timothy Speyer, currently playing Snug in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at The Rose in Kingston, appeared on The Impressions Show with Culshaw & Stephenson and played journalist Andrew Gilligan in the BBC’s The Hutton Inquiry. Jeremy Swift starred in two series of The Smoking Room on TV and played Mr Bumble in Roman Polanski’s film, Oliver Twist. He previously appeared in the West End in David Grindley’s revival of Abigail’s Party.

Blissfully funny, The 39 Steps follows the incredible adventures of dashingly handsome hero Richard Hannay - complete with stiff-upper-lip, British gung-ho and pencil moustache - as he goes on the run from police accused of a dastardly murder, dodges double-crossing secret agents, and, of course, becomes entangled with several devastatingly beautiful women.
