ROYAL WEDDING WEEKEND - A LIST OF WHATS ON IN LONDON

The upcoming nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton are due to take the whole of the country, but particularly London, by storm at the end of this month.  Jam-pack your day of celebrations with the best London has to offer.

Of course you can watch the goings on from the comfort of your own home on the small screen, but why not go one better and head to the capital's centre itself to soak up the auspicious occasion.  Expect a real feelgood atmosphere all weekend with a fun carnival vibe.  Streets will be lined with bunting galore and three big screens erected in Hyde Park will televise the proceedings along with one in the middle of Trafalgar Square.  There will also be food and drinks stalls and licensed bars to keep everyone in the celebratory mood.

If you want to get a great view of the wedding procession itself get there early.  When Charles and Diana married in 1981 two million people lined the streets between Westminster Abbey and Buckingham Palace.  The wedding is scheduled between 11am and 12.15pm on Friday 29th April and then the happy couple will make their way from the abbey to the palace in a  procession of five horse drawn carriages.  They are scheduled to appear on the balcony at Buckingham Palace at 1.25pm.  At 1.30pm the Royal Air Force and the Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight will do a fly past of the palace to draw the public part of the days' proceedings to a euphoric close.

And then it's party time!  With everyone in good spirits and a sense of British patriotism in the air if you have made it into the centre to enjoy the day up close, or are here for the whole weekend, why not take the opportunity to explore other great attractions London has to offer.  The London Dungeon near London Bridge mixes up history and fun as gruesome tales of  notorious rogues, murderers and treasonists from the past are colourfully retold.  Children in particular usually love the macabre stories and special effects-laden rides the dressed up actors guide you through.

Alternatively why not get a bird's eye view of London itself from the London Eye.  The world's tallest observation wheel gives a breathtaking panoramic view of the capital in the safety of your enclosed capsule.  At 135 metres you will be able to spot recognisable landmarks such as St Paul's Cathedral, Big Ben and of course, the climax of the wedding procession, Buckingham Palace.  As evening arrives and darkness begins to fall the views are just as dazzling from the Eye as the city and its buildings are lit up in a magical flurry of colour.  On a weekend of festivities such as this the capital will be at its most vibrant and fun, so what better time to explore and reflect on London's past, present and future.
