GOSSIP: GAVIN & STACEY THE MUSICAL ON THE CARDS?

Actress Ruth Jones who co-created and co-wrote much-loved TV comedy series Gavin & Stacey with James Cordon has revealed plans for a possible West End version of the show.

The Welsh star has revealed that plans for another Christmas special for this year had to be put on hold due to tricky timelines for the ensemble cast.

As well as Jones and Cordon the other stars of the show have seen their work offers pile up following the show's success making getting everyone available at the same time had become a logistical nightmare.

Joanna Page who plays Stacey revealed earlier this year that she would love the two creators to pen another outing for the series but appreciated that it was going to be difficult to get everyone together.  The show also features in-demand stars Matthew Horne, Alison Steadman, Larry Lamb and Julia Davis.

Jones confirmed to the Evening Standard that she and Corden have discussed writing a possible stage version of the show.   "I saw Billy Elliot on stage the other day and I thought it would be something good to do.   It's something I would definitely be up for" she revealed, adding  "We'd love to do Gavin & Stacey: The Musical".

Jones has a new 10-part series coming out and Corden, as well as recently becoming a father, is currently treading the boards in One Man, Two Guvnors at the Adelphi Theatre in the West End.

Ruth Jones expects that a new Gavin & Stacey Christmas special is very likely for the 2012 winter schedule…but we'd love to see some more evidence of a stage show getting off the ground before then!
