DISNEY'S LION KING CONTINUES TO DOMINATE US BOX OFFICE

The 3D version of Disney's animated classic THE LION KING has remained at the top spot of the US film chart for the second week running, holding back Brad Pitt's new film Moneyball.

According to Disney, the new version of The Lion King made $22.1m (£14.3m). Moneyball opened at number 2 with $20.6m (£13.3m), while Dolphin Tale was close behind with $20.3m (£13.1m).

This means that the new version of The Lion King has already made $61.7m (£39.9m) since its release.

Head of Distribution at Disney, Dave Hollis, said the studio will leave the film in cinemas longer than its planned two-week run after the 3D version exceeded all expectations.
