5 Must-See West End Shows This Spring

It’s finally spring and do you know what that means? Lots of free time to go to the theatre! But what’s playing at the moment that’s good? What do you need to catch before it closes very soon? Here are 5 shows to consider...

The Railway Children at King’s Cross Station

The classic book and movie has been transformed into a stage play featuring a real life stream train! If the kids need something to do now they’re off school then this is definitely one to consider, but even if they’re not then this play is definitely something to catch! Some friends of mine saw the show when it was at Waterloo Station last time it was produced and said it was really something... Sounds good to me!

    Cats at the London Palladium

The first London revival of this megahit classic musical extended its limited run a while back and it’s soon going to be time to say goodbye! If you get the chance, catch the delectable Kerry Ellis as Grizabella before it closes in just over a fortnight as this show is really one you don’t want to miss. Rumour has it the revival will return to the West End stem again near the end of the year, but I’d catch it now just to be sure...!

    Memphis at the Shaftesbury Theatre

This Tony Award- winning Best Musical is now also a WhatsOnStage Award Best Musical winner as well as being this year’s most nominated show at the Olivier’s. If that’s not something to tell you to go then I don’t know what is! With a moving story and a score to die for, this show might be waving us goodbye come October to make way for Motown: The Musical so get to it while you still can!

Beautiful – The Carole King Musical at the Aldwych Theatre

This hit jukebox musical opened its doors back in February and it isn’t looking back. It’s the second most nominated show at this year’s Olivier’s and that is not surprise at all. Carole King’s catalogue of musical triumphs as does the moving tale of her life to make the ideal night out. It’s a perfect one for a night out with the girls but definitely one that kids will adore as well – see it!

Made in Dagenham at the Adelphi Theatre

One of my favourite movies ever is Made In Dagenham and when I got to see this new musical adaptation, I was not disappointed at all. It’s a smash hit in more ways than one and it is one of the best British musicals that has hit the West End in a very long time. Nonetheless, MID is closing its doors on Saturday the 11th of April and is making way for Kinky Boots come summer. Catch this show before it goes if you can because it really is what modern musical theatre should be. And if you don't, mark it down for when it returns to the West End (here's hoping)!
